Hi, friends!
There are only four months until we are already almost at Halloween! I don’t know about you, but I CANNOT wait ‘til we hit those “ber” months. I’m doing my best to endure this humid and sweaty season that is Summer in the Midwest… but I CANNOT wait for Fall!
For me, this is the only season that makes living in the Midwest worth it. No shade (well, maybe a little), but coming from the nice, dry, Desert, it has been a HUGE adjustment for me.
The absolute best part of living here for me is getting to experience a real Fall season. Chilly weather, cute jackets, and the changing colors of the leaves make my spooky little heart so happy. Not to mention pumpkin everything (yes, I’m a little basic, but I’m ok with it).
In case you’re looking for something to do this year or if you just want a few different ideas, I’ve put together a list of fun Fall Bucketlist items for you this upcoming Fall season.
Feel free to tweak as necessary. As always, use your discretion as needed. Most items can be adjusted to be kid-friendly if that’s what you need (or not!). And if you don’t care for something on the list, like pumpkin spice, feel free to substitute it with something you do like. You are the master of your own destiny and should have the experience that you want.
Here is the full list of ideas for you to explore this coming Spooky Season:
Spooky Season Bucketlist:
Pick a pumpkin from a Pumpkin Patch – What says Fall more than visiting a pumpkin patch??
Carve a Jack-O-Lantern – Get those Halloween vibes going!
Eat or drink something Pumpkin flavored – It’s ok if you’re not in the PSL mafia, adjust to your preferences 😊
Bake a Fall treat – something that tastes like Fall (see my Fall Recipe Roundup post for inspiration!)
Drink fresh apple cider – yum!
Do a fun Fall word puzzle – there are all kinds of fun word searches, crosswords, puzzles… etc. available
Wear/ buy something Flannel or Plaid
Go shopping (or window-shopping) for fun Fall decorations – my favorite is TJ MAXX, but Marshall’s usually has cute mugs and lunchboxes around this time of year
Pick out a new fall candle – Again, TJ MAXX usually has some pretty good ones that aren’t too expensive, but I’ve also found some good ones at Home Goods as well
Enjoy a Fall beverage on an outdoor patio where you can see the pretty leaves – this can be kid-friendly – or not! It’s up to you what you consider a Fall beverage 😉
Pick apples at an apple orchard – ‘Nuff said
Go on a Fall hike or nature walk and collect some fallen leaves – Obviously, not everyone lives in an area where they can do this. I’m truly sorry about that. It’s one of my favorite things to do in the Fall. Maybe this will inspire a quick day trip or overnight adventure??
Visit an outdoor craft/ arts fair or Fall Festival – Support local or small businesses if you can! If not, it’s still fun to walk around and/ hit a food truck or two while there
Roast marshmallows by an open fire (if unable to do this, look into getting a tabletop s’mores kit)
Wear your favorite sweater – if you live somewhere that gets chilly enough. If not, you may have to way until November or so to do so
Have a themed spooky movie night and make some treats to go with – Can be fun with friends, family, a significant other, with a pet, or even just by yourself!
Have a fun Fall photoshoot with friends or pets – just plain adorable whether it’s for Fall or Halloween
Color a Fall or Halloween-themed coloring page
Create a Spooky playlist (or feel free to listen to mine instead: Ultimate Halloween Mix Playlist, Halloween Dance Party Playlist, Witchy Enchantress Vibes Playlist, or my very favorite: Spooky Season Chillin’ Vibes Playlist)
Make some fun Fall/ Halloween crafts – I’m working on putting a list together for y’all to enjoy
Draw your own Fall or Halloween-themed scene – Get creative! Even if you’re not an artist, per se, it can still be fun to draw your own doodles
Decorate your house for Fall or Halloween – If you don’t have a whole house or apartment to yourself, decorate your own room or space in a way that will make you smile
Make/ buy a Halloween costume – You can get creative by checking out local thrift stores and see if they have anything that inspires a costume or two!
Read a scary or spooky book – There are SO many to choose from ranging from fun scary to hair-raising, keep-you-up-at-night. I’m also working on a list for you guys
Tell ghost stories around a campfire – This one could be tougher to accomplish. Can be substituted with making a fort inside your house and pretending you have a fire going. I bet you can find a fireplace or bonfire picture or video on a few different streaming channels/ devices
Visit a Haunted House attraction – can be pricey so check prices before you go
Visit a local oddities or witch museum/ show – Of course, availability of these kind of attractions is going to vary wildly by location. I’d suggest doing some Googling before setting out to do this
Investigate local spooky history/ urban legends – This one can be done right from your couch if you want to! I’d start with some Googling on this as well. Once you find something that intrigues you, you can then branch out to books or streaming services for documentaries or shows on whatever interests you. You might even find a local display/ museum/ other attraction that you can go check out. I do NOT recommend trespassing on other’s property if you happen to have a local “haunted house”. Stay safe and don’t get in trouble, friends!
So, I was having way too much fun working on this in Canva and I decided it would make sense to also include the little subsections I came up with. In case you are looking for a certain theme to complete your Fall Bucketlist, I have included the same list, but broken down into smaller sections… Please note that there are a few repeats on the list. For example, visiting a pumpkin patch falls under both “Pumpkin Edition” as well as “Outdoorsy Edition” because it belongs on both, in my opinion!
Pumpkin Edition:
Classic Edition:
Outdoorsy Edition:
Cozy Edition:
Creative Edition:
Spooky Edition:
Ok, I think that’s about it. It’s not an exhaustive list, but I think it’s a pretty good start to getting a nice variety of things to enjoy over the Fall season.
So what do you think? Did I miss your personal favorite? Let me know in the comments below what you love to do during Spooky Season!
Xoxo,
Dannie
